Job Summary

 
The Bus Fleet Dispatcher is a highly critical role, facilitating efficient operations by coordinating vehicle schedules and resolving capacity challenges around driver and/or equipment changes, customer requests, traffic and weather updates and other unanticipated circumstances. The Dispatcher coordinates contract services including Megabus, Amtrak and University Shuttles, as well as one-off daily charters and over-the-road moves and tours. The Dispatcher is entrusted with the mission-critical role of efficiently planning and updating all fleet schedules in real time, and takes responsibility for the outcomes. The Dispatcher position offers potential for advancement based on performance.
 

Qualifications

 
  • One year experience in Transportation industry, or related training
  • Commercial Driver's License (Class B w/Passenger) helpful but not required
  • Working knowledge of DOT, CHP, DMV and CDE rules and regulations for Commercial transportation
  • Demonstrably strong analytical, logic and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities under time pressure in an environment where circumstances change by the minute
  • Strong computer skills including touch-typing, MS Office, data entry
 

Responsibilities

 
  • Plan and coordinate Driver and Bus assignments with direction from Operations Management and other inputs
  • Assign and contact Drivers, and communicate/confirm assignments, schedules and Customer requests
  • Make independent and decisive judgments about changes to daily Dispatch plan on-the-fly
  • Work as a team with other Dispatcher from alternate shift to synchronize planning and communication
  • Coordinate last-minute changes with Customers, Drivers and Maintenance, communicating with professionalism and efficiency
  • Take ownership of dispatch process and outcomes
  • Act as Customer Liaison on day-of-service, and provide exceptional customer service
  • Verify Hours-of-Service compliance and Fit-for-Duty requirements
  • Audit and approve daily driver logs and vehicle inspection reports, coach Drivers on logging protocol
  • Document on-time, tardy, call-off and operator performance issues
  • Work largely unsupervised and take responsibility for critical Dispatch decision-making in real time
  • Shifts vary and may include late nights and/or weekends
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 

Compensation

 
  • This is a full-time hourly position
  • Hourly rate: $18-20/hr DOQ + premium for on-call days
